Recently after needing to revert to a VMWare snapshot of an Exchange server I received the below error when trying to login as a domain admin: ‘The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed’.
This is actually fairly common and nothing to panic about. Whatever you do though do not delete the Exchange servers computer account and attempt to join to the domain again as you would a workstation.
You simply need to login as a local admin, reset the computer account using the below command and then reboot the server.
netdom resetpwd /s:vmdc01.domain.com /ud:domain\DCadmin /pd:"********"
