How to definitively disable IPv6

To disable IPv6 you first need to disable it in your network adapter’s TCP/IPv6 properties by simply unchecking the item.  You then need to make a registry change to disable it completely.

Open Regedit as an administrator and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters

Right click on Parameters, select New and then DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name the new value DisabledComponents and hit Enter. Now right click on the new DisabledComponents value you just created and select Modify. Set the value of DisabledComponents to FF and click OK.
