Just recently I was asked by a client to migrate their Active Directory 2008 R2 servers to Windows Server 2016. All was going well until I needed to demote the old domain controllers and ran DCPROMO.  I was presented with the error Active Directory could not transfer the remaining data in directory partition.  Then below it stated The directory service is missing mandatory configuration information, and is unable to determine the ownership of floating single-master operation roles.  Before starting with the fix I would just note that every step here is important.  Missing some of the details and skipping over things (you may think you know) will slow you down in the long run.

How to allow Hyper-V and VMware Workstation to co-exist on the same machine without an uninstall

Problem:
Recently I wanted to test something with the latest version of VMware Workstation on my test machine that also had Microsoft Hyper-V installed.  When trying to start a VM in VMware workstation I received the error ‘VMware Workstation and Hyper-V are not compatible. Remove the Hyper-V role from the system before running VMware Workstation.’

In the this post we will be setting up your SCCM 2016 Site System roles.  So what is a site system role and why do we need it?  A site system role is added to extend the management functionality of the site.  So basically if you want to be able to manage a particular type of object within SCCM 2016 we need to install a site system role for it.

In the previous two posts in this series we went through installing and configuring all the necessary prerequisites for SCCM 2016 and then installed SCCM 2016.  That’s great we now have SCCM 2016 installed, the basics configured correctly and are ready to go.  We now just need to know how to use it!
