Now that Microsoft allow you to stream your Xbox One X to a Microsoft Windows 10 PC I thought I’d take it one step further and stream to my Windows 10 laptop over the internet. To stream from Xbox One X to Windows 10 there are a few prerequisites. There are many great uses for this and the ability to play your Xbox One X wherever you have your Windows 10 laptop is a great feature for Microsoft to add.
You first need to follow this guide and setup a VPN connection so that you can connect to you home network when you are on an offsite internet connection. It may look complex but you should have it up and running inside of an hour. You are also going to need a Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter that you can buy from Amazon. Once you have the adapter installed, pair your controller with it by holding down the pair button on the adapter until it flashes and then do the same on the Xbox controller.
Once you have the above in place take your Windows 10 laptop to an internet connection outside of your home network. This could be a a hotel room, internet cafe etc.
Then connect to the VPN connection that you created at the beginning
Then open an up-to-date version of the Windows 10 Xbox app and click Turn on. This will then turn on your Xbox at home. Some people have said that this hasn’t worked when doing it remotely in which case you can just turn it on from another machine on the LAN using TeamViewer or using your VPN to RDP to another machine on your LAN to initiate the power on command
Once the Xbox is on click the Stream button using the Xbox One controller
This will then connect the Windows 10 machine to your Xbox
You will now be able to play your games from anywhere in the world, I even play them over my phone’s 4G hotspot which works fine on Medium quality. You can change the quality by clicking the icon in the top right once streaming has started.
