Many users will remember the days when dynDNS was free and enabled you to log your router into a dynDNS account to keep track of your external IP changes. This enabled you to contact your resources via an external DNS domain name. You can now do this with DuckDNS which is a free dynamic DNS service.
First go to https://www.duckdns.org/ and click install
Select Windows GUI
Click the download link which takes you to another URL
Download the file and run the installer
Let the installer complete (you will also need to install Java Runtime)
Go back to https://www.duckdns.org/ and click on one of the login options (I use Google)
You will then be given details to link the DuckDNS application with your account
Open the DuckDNS application and fill in your settings
Right click on the DuckDNS application in the taskbar and click What is my IP Address?
It should return the correct address
Test by pinging your DuckDNS external URL and it should return the same IP as above. You can now use your DuckDNS for accessing your home resources by domain name.
